Glass Roof finally installed...

Mike, the carpenter who has basically built our house, with a bit of assistance from me, says he has been thinking about how to install the glass roof over the rear entry way for more than a year. Today, we finally got it installed and it all went very smoothly. All that's left to do is install some kind of a gutter to catch the rain and steer it into the main roof gutter to the left of the glass section.

Here's a shot of the interior with our chosen colour "Light Incense" (what else are you going to do with it?) applied to the walls. It's a nice pale but strong yellowy beige colour.

  1. Hm... What did Mike do to the glass roof to control the flow of water when it rains? I think a proper downspout would be enough to control the flow of water, just make sure that the sides of the roof have proper flashing to prevent leaking inside.

  2. That's a good looking glass roof, Andy! It definitely goes well with the color of the wooden frame. Well, Mike should install the gutter as soon as possible before the rain starts falling. It could make a lot of mess, if he didn't install it on time.

  3. I love the color that you chose; it’s so radiant! It added a vibrant aura to the façade of your house. And hey, that glass roof is wickedly awesome! It must be nice to see raindrops falling, and this is something worth capturing! The glass roof also provides a brighter atmosphere during sunny days, as natural light passes through it. I like that part because it’s so appealing yet very functional.

  4. I never knew that glass and wood together, would complement each other so well, don’t you think? Nice choice of colors for your interiors, it exudes a very uplifting aura. As for your gutters, they really should be installed as soon as possible to make sure the water would not flood your home’s basement during the rainy season.

  5. Wonderful! It matches with the interior of the house, doesn’t it? Nice one! Now that you’re done installing your roof, the next thing you need to consider is how you are going to keep it clean and well maintained. You have to be extra careful in cleaning your roof. You must not stand on the glass roof or put too much pressure on it as you are working, and always remember to wear safety gear. ;)

  6. Woah! That “Light Incense” you chose as the primary shade of your interior truly gives your home a unique character. And that magnificent glass roof made it a whole lot better! Your home is absolutely stylish inside and out. =)

  7. Kip’s got the right idea. A downspout, even a narrow one, would be the best solution to keeping rain from pooling on the glass. One thing that could have been done prior to installation was to tilt the glass down even a little bit to ensure that the rainwater doesn’t stay on the pane. If it’s not too late or too costly to do that, that might be another thing you can suggest to your builder.

  8. Well, the stunning look of a glass roof will definitely fade in a short period of time if you don’t exert any effort in keeping it clean and well maintained. ;) You have to make sure that you use the right cleaning solutions and solvent because it has a tremendous effect on the way your glass roof will look like. This can make your glass roof sparkle or become dull.

  9. Very nicely executed. Now all you need on there are some asphalt shingles to have a fiber glass combo'd roof.

  10. You’re right about cleaning the glass roofing, Neil. Also, constant weather changes will affect the glass roof’s quality. It might get brittle after several years. So it’s advisable if to check for some breaks or damage. That’s already considered a form of proper maintenance.

  11. That glass roof is good to use because it entails less maintenance, and it is also functional since it will give your home a brighter atmosphere. The aesthetics of the exterior area seems to match with your home's internal structure. However, I wish to see more of the interior designs of your home. There must be more surprising designs that we are about to witness! =)

  12. I agree, Norbert. I couldn't believe that roof and glass would look good together until I saw this. I am a little worried though with the wood being incessantly wet. I think an alternative would be to use metal. There are wood-colored paints available in the market, so you can imitate the same aura as the one that your house has now. :)

  13. Let me guess… You guys love sun light coming in your house every day that is why you installed glass roofs, eh? I can imagine how delightful mornings are for you and your family. =) Well, just a simple reminder, dirt is more visible in roofs so I hope you guys were able to clean it as often as possible for it to have a constant pleasant appearance.
